Roots Entwined Semester 2
Roots Entwined Semester 2
Online Educator Training
Ongoing guidance for parents, a continuation of Roots Entwined Semester 1.
You must have taken Roots Entwined Semester 1 to enroll in Semester 2.
Roots Entwined is taught across a semester, over three 90-minute online, interactive classes. It is designed for parents who want a guide through their language arts school year. We help you develop ongoing strategies based on your student’s individual needs. Our goal is to provide the understanding and tools you need to teach confidently and successfully.
The class is conducted through live Zoom sessions and an online forum for discussion, questions, and resources.
For the most comprehensive understanding and application of Intentional Copywork and Dictation, we recommend taking both semesters:
Fall Semester: Roots Entwined Part 1 focuses on understanding and supporting your individual student's learning challenges. We identify individual areas of weakness for your student and how to develop a plan for success. We show you how to deepen comprehension, integrate phonics and spelling work, improve handwriting skills, and begin intentional editing practices.
Spring Semester: Roots Entwined Part 2 focuses on deepening and extending your support system. We create a master plan to coordinate the major areas of language arts to promote success for your student. We show you how to incorporate dictation, and extend copywork effectiveness through the addition of grammar, word study, and further intentional editing.
Part 2 is only available if you have previously taken Part 1.
Part 2 - Spring Semester:
Friday, January 18 - 3:00pm
Friday, February 22 - 3:00pm
Friday, March 22 - 3:00pm
Roots Entwined teaches our Intentional Copywork and Dictation practice, and its role in any comprehensive language arts program. Intentional learning is a two-part practice:
Exercising reading and writing skills to a level of proficiency and automaticity (Laying a Path class series)
Consolidating those skills by engaging in reading and writing practices (Roots Entwined class series)
Each parent coaching class includes three segments:
Guided parent practice/planning
Open question/answer forum
Educators are introduced to Intentional Copywork, Dictation, and Editing lessons that incorporate all foundational areas of language arts. Concepts are presented in three sessions per semester, allowing educators time to implement ideas and strategies.
A weekly schedule of Skill and Consolidation practice includes:
Reading Comprehension and Accuracy
Phonics, Spelling, Word Study, and Vocabulary
Grammar, Punctuation, and Handwriting
Intentional Copywork with Intentional Editing
Dictation with Intentional Editing
Parents are encouraged to utilize their own literature selections for their children, coordinating them with the lessons provided.
All videos will be made available only to class members for continued use or review. A free Zoom account is required to participate in live classes. A free Gmail account is required for access to class videos.
