Learn best-practice for teaching new learners to read and write from day one!

What are educator training classes?

All language arts studies rely on complex underlying language skills. Success in reading and writing requires explicit teaching strategies that cross these intertwined skill areas.

Our classes dive deeply into each underlying language arts skill area, equipping educators to meet individual student needs. Deep learning strategies are provided and demonstrated, helping educators know how to best teach reading and writing skills at all learning levels. We show you methods that are effective and research-based. All classes include a materials packet to be used by the educator throughout the school year.

In the live class, you will have the opportunity to ask questions. Class recordings will be made available to all participants after the course, viewable for up to 12 months. You must have a Zoom account to participate in our classes. This account is free and easy to set up at www.zoom.us

What will I learn?

Welcome to the Forest: Decoding & Spelling for the Emergent Reader is a deep dive into early reading, writing, and copywork. This 1.5 hour course is designed to help educators teach new readers and writers. Rita and Moira demonstrate how we teach early reading and writing foundational skills, showing how to implement explicit, multisensory instruction.

Our strategies are engaging and the most effective for both struggling and typical new readers. We teach strategies and techniques supported by research.

Our approach to reading and writing, even at the earliest levels, includes:

  • Letter recognition

  • Letter formation

  • Sound-to-letter introduction and practice

  • Short vowel sounds

  • Early copywork practice

  • Introductory word study and grammar

How does it help?

Reading and writing skills should be taught simultaneously because each skill helps grow the other, creating a strong language system. Likewise, handwriting practice, suffixing, and grammar skills should also be incorporated into early literacy instruction to build a strong foundation for later learning success. Help your new reader and writer build solid skills for reading and writing mastery!
