How do I use it?

Educators can use this activity with any student of writing age. Letters To has universal appeal because it combines the student’s personal opinion with humor and unexpected quirks! Students are guided through a series of steps using comparative literary elements, such as personification, simile, metaphor, imagery, and analogy. As students think, draw, and write, they progress from concrete to abstract ideas. Students then use their notes and drawings to create a polished letter.

Students find this approach manageable, entertaining, and effective--so educators can engage even reluctant writers! This strategy can be reprinted and used throughout the year as an excellent supplement to any language arts program.

How does it help?
