Annotation means adding notes to text. The process of annotating helps readers dig deeply into text, improving comprehension and analytical thinking. Once annotation is understood, readers can apply the method to any story, large or small. As readers gain insight into the stories they read, they are better equipped for original writing—whether analytical or creative.
This annotation curriculum will help intermediate- to highschool-aged students define, recognize, and mark:
- Universal story structure and its elements
- Literary elements that create a musical or poetic quality
- Literary elements that generate comparisons and imagery
- Techniques that determine a writer's style
Best of all, your student will learn to use BookMarks©—to help readers track key elements within a story.
This five- to eight-week curriculum includes:
Lesson One: Exploring Structural Elements
Lesson Two: Exploring Musical Elements
Lesson Three: Exploring Figurative Language
Lesson Four: The Annotation Bookmark
Lesson Five: Exploring Writer's Style
Laying a Path: Annotating Literary Elements curriculum will be available for purchase in our shop on July 27th for $24.95
